Leisure Interests

• I am married with 5 children and 1 grandchild - my family is my life!
• I am a passionate skier and own an apartment in Flaine, France which all the family enjoy.
• Each year I organise the Royal Society of Medicine Surgical Section overseas meeting in Flaine which combines the rigors of academia with the slightly less rigorous pursuit of skiing. Try joining us one year!
• My more sedentary hobby is oil painting and I long for the time when I will be able to commit more time to this most relaxing and productive past-time.
• I am a committed Christian and am very active in my local church, in the Christian Medical Fellowship and in the Gideons International, having been their National President twice, in 1986 to 1989 and in 1996 to 1999. I currently represent the British Isles by sitting on the Gideons International Cabinet as their International Trustee.
• I have a deep interest and commitment to relief work overseas especially in Romania. I have had the opportunity of visiting the hospital in Rimnicu Vilcea (north west of Bucharest) annually since the revolution in 1989 and have forged strong links with the Romanian surgeons. With the assistance of the Education Department of the Royal College of Surgeons of England we have also been able to provide the University Hospital in Iasi with educational tools and resources.
